Teladoc Health Expands AI-Powered Telemedicine for Hospitals

Teladoc Health announced two artificial intelligence capabilities for its Solo connected-care platform. The launch introduces contactless vital-sign measurement and automated clinical documentation into hospital workflows. The development targets healthcare providers seeking to expand virtual care while reducing fragmented technology systems.

AI-Powered Telemedicine Connects Patient Monitoring and Clinical Documentation

The new capabilities, SoloVitals and SoloScribe, address two operational challenges across hospital-based virtual care. SoloVitals uses a camera-equipped smartphone or tablet to estimate heart and respiratory rates without physical contact. The technology analyzes subtle facial skin-colour changes through remote photoplethysmography, providing measurements for clinicians during remote consultations. These measurements are intended to support clinical decisions rather than replace professional assessment.

SoloScribe uses ambient artificial intelligence to generate structured clinical notes from patient encounters. Its documentation supports virtual consultations and eligible clinical workflows, with templated summaries transferred into electronic health records. By embedding both functions within one platform, Teladoc aims to reduce dependence on disconnected software tools. The integrated approach could help hospitals manage virtual consultations and documentation more efficiently.

The announcement carries commercial significance because healthcare systems increasingly need scalable digital infrastructure. Teladoc reported that its Solo technology was installed across more than 15,000 care locations globally. The platform also integrates with electronic health record systems, including Epic and Oracle Health, using established interoperability standards. These existing connections could make the new capabilities relevant to hospitals evaluating broader virtual-care deployments.

Availability differs between the two features. SoloScribe is generally available, while SoloVitals remains in private preview for selected customers. Teladoc expects SoloVitals to receive a full general release in December 2026. Hospitals considering adoption will need to evaluate clinical validation, workflow integration, privacy safeguards, and operational costs. The launch does not establish that these tools independently improve patient outcomes or reduce healthcare expenditure.

For patients, contactless measurements could support remote clinical interactions, while automated documentation may help clinicians spend more attention on consultations. However, camera-based measurements should not be treated as a substitute for appropriate medical evaluation. The effectiveness of these tools will depend on implementation, patient suitability, and clinical oversight. Teladoc’s announcement highlights how virtual-care providers are moving beyond video consultations toward connected hospital services.
